Scott M. Nichol



NicholsScott M. Nichol was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. He attended the University at Buffalo where he graduated with a Baccalaureate Degree in History and Political Science.  He maintains his love of Chicken Wings, Buffalo Bills Football, and Buffalo Sabres Hockey.

After graduating from the University at Buffalo he moved to Lansing, Michigan to attend Thomas M. Cooley Law School. While at Cooley Law he participated in Moot Court and Mock Trial and was selected to represent the school at the Veteran’s Law Appellate Advocacy Competition in Washington, DC. He graduated Cum Laude from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2011.

Following his admittance to the State of Michigan Bar he began his legal career opening a law practice with his wife Tara. During his legal career he has represented the interests of indigent individuals charged with criminal offenses. Additionally, he has represented indigent parents whose children who have been taken into temporary custody by child protective services. His representation in both of these areas have made him committed to protecting the constitutional rights of indigent citizen’s against the power of the government. It is this passion that led him to seek a position as an assistant public defender. He is committed to using the increased resources the Office of the Public Defender affords to continue to provide quality representation to those accused of crimes in Ingham County.
